Jonathan's Walks

My son, Jonathan takes walks. Often 2, 3 or 4 times in a day…sometimes in the evening before dark.
At first I didn’t think anything of it. He comes to me and says, “Mom, I am going for a walk.” I say, “okay.”
For some reason I never felt I should ever say to him, “Can I go with you?”
I never felt it was meant for me to do so.

After the first week. I began to wonder, why he was going for walks so much and so often. So I asked him. “Jonathan, what are you doing when you go for these walks? Why are you going so many times?”
He said, “I spend time praying and thinking.”
I said, “Oh.” Feeling very impressed.

After a couple weeks. I got used to him going for walks. Every time, just before he would take a walk, he comes to me and will say, “Mom, I am going for a walk.” I say, “Okay.”

I have never felt the need to ask if I can join him, even before I knew what he was doing on this walks.
These walks were never meant for me.
                                             This was his time with his Lord.

I never said a word to my husband.
He is gone most the time, trucking. So when he is home…we spend time with him as much as we can. One evening, he came home and noticed Jonathan was not in the house. He asked, “Where is the boy?”
I said, “He went for a walk with Jesus.”

Then I looked over at my husband and saw tears running down his cheeks.
I got a little concerned and said, “What is wrong?”
He said, “What you just said, really entered my heart and touched me.”
“What a precious time, our son is having with Jesus.”
I thought on that a minute as well.

These walks have been going on for Jonathan since he got home from the Youth Mission Trip he went on with his church group.
That was in the middle of June.

He has not missed a day of Walking with Jesus since then. I notice sometimes…some of his walks are quick ones and sometimes he seems to be gone a long time. Sometimes he goes one time a day and sometimes I have seen him go as many as 4 times, even in the middle of a triple degree heat wave.
I guess it is a matter of the heart.

I pray for him when he goes. When he comes to me and says, “Mom, I’m going for a walk.”
I begin to pray in my heart as soon as I hear the door shut. I continue to pray for him, until he returns.

Today…I was thinking about all this…His walks.
 I thought about the scripture in the Bible that states…If we draw near to Him, He draws near to us.
James 4:8.
I am certain, God loves these times with Jonathan.
Jonathan is taking a walk and expecting time with Him.

Giving Him personal and deep details of his heart
to the One he loves and trusts with everything that concerns him.

I thought back today about that story in the Bible…The Walk to Emmaus.
Luke 24:13-35. What a beautiful story.

The 2 men were walking that day to a village called Emmaus.
Discussing the recent events of Jesus.



Vs. 15 as they conversed, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.

As they came near to their destination.
They asked him to go their house and eat with them, rest and talk further.

As the sat at the table to eat and Jesus took the bread, blessed it and broke it to give to them…their eyes became open to just who He is. They did not know, the One they were talking about on that road was the One with them.


When their eyes became open to the truth and they realized this man at their table was not just any ordinary man… they were astonished. Then He vanished from their sight.
They turned to one another and said…”Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

My Friends, Jesus has not changed. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8.
Let us take the example of these 2 men in the Word.
Let us take the example of my 16 year old son.
Let us take a walk with the Lord and let our hearts burn within us, as His truth is revealed!
